From Al Scott, president of NASDAO

Hello Don and Doris,

Pray all is well with you.  (Al has received inquiries requesting information on AOA meetings
in New Orleans at the AOA this year.)

I am forwarding this email regarding any NASDAO meeting in conjunction with the AOA
conventions this year and next. As far as I know, we do not have any plans.

(Personal.)

On June 28, I was at a resort in Helen, GA. I slipped on a stair. Both my legs bent up
under me. The result was two severely comminuted fractures of the distal femurs just
proximal to the prosthesis. Spent two month in several rehab hospitals. Returned home
last week. The factures are healing slowly. John King expects two to four more months
of non weight bearing. Needless to say I am struggling with my restrictions. Prayers are
always appreciated.

Shirley is fine. Stressed from my injury and disability. She continues to teach Dental
Hygiene at Phoenix College.

Rebekah is off to U of A in Tucson. Jonathan is starting his sophomore year at Horizon
High School. He is now 6' 3" and 185 pounds. Plays fooitball and basketball on the Junior
Varsity. Bradley earned his degree in finance last Dec. Larry is going to Mesa State College
in Grand Junction, CO. Did well his first year in Physical Education.

The church building is going up at Thunderbird Academy. Floor, foundation, and trusses are all in
place. Should be done by January.

GOD's blessings,

 Alan Scott

NASDAO's FUTURE OR IS THERE ONE?

A couple of weeks ago I sent out an E-News letter to those for whom I have email addresses, less than
100 at the present.  (If you are not on the email list and would like to be, please send me your email address.)
I asked for some input regarding what the future of NASDAO will be.  I received several responses to the inquiry
for which I wish to thank each of you who took the time to respond.  The responses varied from some that believe
the organization is dying and there may be no way to avoid that outcome to some who feel that we should
continue to attempt to resuscitate it by adding CME to our annual programs again and also to having Retreats
as we did for so many years.
Greg Henderson, one of the hospital administrator's at Kettering Medical Center has offered to host our group
in Dayton, Ohio at a future date and arrange for accredited CME for the group.  This is a very generous offer
and we certainly appreciate Mr. Henderson's efforts in our behalf.  I personally would like to see this happen,
but it would be very embarrassing to our organization to move forward with this program and not have a
reasonable number attend.
We could also resume our summer retreats at places of interest to our entire group.  In the past we have had
good attendance at Hope, BC with the Alaska cruise following.  We had a good group attendance in Branson,
Missouri and Cohutta Springs Camp in Georgia several times.  If you have a thought on this subject, please
communicate them either to me or one of the officers so that we can form some sort of a consensus.  We do
monies in the treasury that will need to be disbursed if the decision is to disband the organization.

Thank you for considering this matter,

Don Starkey D.O.

PARADISE, CALIFORNIA

"Come to Paradise.  Paradise, California is in the foothills 90 miles north of Sacramento.  It is surrounded by
scenic canyons and filled with huge pine trees.  There is a growing SDA hospital here that has won numerous
national awards for quality care.  We have a 12 grade church school with newly constructed academy buildings and there are four local churches.  I have been in practice here for 19 years and I am seeking a board certified or eligible family physician to take over my practice.  The hospital is in the process of making the practice part of their rural health clinic.  This means that they will assume all of the office operation and do all the outpatient billing.  The physician will be paid a percentage of what they generate.  The physician will need to bill or contract with a billing service for their inpatient charges.”

Submitted by Don Starkey D.O. October 2, 2008

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you that one of my best friends, Col. Brooker Mills D.O. passed away
this morning.  Brooker was a graduate of the Kansas City College '61.  He had a long struggle with cancer
which finally invaded his brain and other vital organs.  Our condolences go to his wonderful wife, Joyce, and
family as they struggle with his loss.

Brooker completed a residency in internal medicine which he practiced in Pennsylvania prior to his enlistment
in the United States Air Force from which he retired with the rank of Colonel.  He was a real credit to the
osteopathic profession, to his Country, to his church and his God.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Lisa Berg Thomsen

Sunday July 6, 2008

I just received a phone call from Sonja Hults, Dalrie and Joan Berg's daughter, telling me that her sister,
Lisa Berg Thomsen, was killed in a motorcycle accident July 4 in Colorado.  She was riding her bike with
her brother, Barry, and his wife.  Details are sketchy but her bike apparently left the road for some unknown
reason.  Her brother performed CPR on her for about 30 minutes while waiting for help to arrive but was unsuccessful.

Her other brother, Eric, is in Ireland and so far they have not been able to contact him.

The services are planned for this Tuesday, July 8, 11 a.m. at the Northglenn Adventist Church in Northglenn, Colorado.

The family is devastated and really need support, especially from each of you who know them .  The entire Berg family have done so much to support NASDAO.  Our hearts certainly go out to them at this tearful time.  Please pray that they will be sustained through this tragedy and that they will be able to make contact with Eric in Ireland soon.

Ernest Phillips D.O. (KCUMB '58)

You probably haven't heard, but Dr Phillips died early last Sabbath. We are getting ready for the funeral this AM. It will be at Thompson, Halverson and Cole in Ft. Worth. He is to have a military burial in Grand Prairie. That's the same place that Dr. Peters is buried. All of the SDA's from KC are gone, except me of course. Seems very unusual to be alone without those friends. By the way I don't think I told you, but Mary lost her grandson (Jeremy-who was in the Navy and stationed in Detroit) the 18th of this month. Very unusual circumstances and the cause of death has not been established. So we have had more than our share of sadness in recent days.

Don Ross D.O.
